Help Prevent Unwanted Out-of-Home Placements

Autism Family-Style is managed by and for families of children with autism

Our new AFS Residential Club system is designed for families caring for children with AFS function levels 01 or 02, helping to prevent unwanted out-of-home placements that occur when sons with autism become bigger and stronger than Mom, and eventually Dad. (Note: first priority will be given to single moms; two-parent families are also welcome)  These families want desperately to take care of their own child(ren), but need and deserve basic support, which will be provided by fellow club members in conjunction with AFS staff.

AFS Social & Recreational System

AFS National Therapeutic Basketball League

AFS has established the nation's first therapeutic basketball league for kids with autism in  San Leandro, California  and will be used as a model to set up teams across the nation in responses to community requests.  Kids meet at a local church gym for basketball, socialization and fun every Friday, for life!  Since starting in June of 2011, all the kids have shown remarkable improvements in their behavior and outlook!

AFS Community Center Clubhouses

Local churches, and/or other available facilities are initially utilized for basketball.  We will then transition each local team into their own AFS recreational facility - AKA AFS Community Center Clubhouses - where we will provide daily academic, therapeutic recreational and social activities.  We will also provide our community with the country's first Pizza Parlor-Style Restaurant, all with appropriate security accomodations for our children.

Securing our own recreational facilities will provide AFS members unlimited use as well as prevent spontaneous bumping of our organization's activities by outside facility owners.
