Laura Bradshaw-Ve'e,  Yahoo Contributor, author of  Mom's Quick-Reference Guide for Moms New to Autism, Reassurance & Support.com, and former owner/ manager of accredited vocational institution in Northern California, is also the mother of an eleven year-old child with autism.

After the shocking realization that her son, and others like him, would need life-long care, and that there were no appropropriate accomodations for autistic children at school, or anywhere else for that matter, Laura  established Autism Family-Style Non-Profit Organization in an effort to establish a complete life-system consisting of social, recreational, and residential accomodations for autistic children at function levels 01 & 02, and the families who want to care for their own.

AFS Current Programs & Services

AFS Residential Club System is designed to keep families together by preventing unwanted out-of-home placements that occur when children become difficult to manage without appropriate support.  Our system currently focuses families who are interested in working together to provide daily systematic family-style support to one another in conjunction with well-trained AFS staff.

AFS National Basketball League is available year-rournd, providing an appropriate  social  & recreational system, crucial to a  child's self-esteem, motivation and cooperation levels.  AFS is based in San Leandro, California where therapeutic basketball sessions have begun with the cooperation of The First Presbyterian Church who  have authorized use of their vintage gymnasium.  Other states and cities can contact AFS and begin the process of forming a team in their area, under the supervision & management of Autism Family -Style.

AFS Online School focuses on children who have missed the opportunity for early intervention therapy which is available only to children ages three or less; Laura's son, like many others, was not diagnosed in time for early intervention therapies.  "Our children deserve the opportunity to maximize their potential and focus on crucial survival, intellectual & communication skills sometimes from the safety of home, but always  in a safe & appropriate environment.  Children with autism, especially those with minimal verbal skills, are particularly vulnerable to bullying, and alternative learning environments must be made available".
